Are SMART Goals still Relevant?
SMART Goals have been around for awhile, we use the buzzword to make KPIs (anothe rbuzzword), and focus on trying to fit these conceptual company, team, life goals into a compressed unit that can be measurable units, but in reality, those units are often still too big to be actionable. Truly actionable where the person intending to complete those actions is able to without a lot of help from a lot of different departments or people. So, my question is, are they really that SMART, or is it that we need to reimagine the TRUE feasibility of the person or team tasked with completing them.
This is where coaching comes in. You may have set a career goal (ie I want to be promoted or given a raise) or a personal goal (I want to enjoy the work that I do), but somehow you get lost along the way; caught up in all the tiny SMART goals needed to complete your big goal. So how can coaching help you? Coaching helps you realized all the small SMART goals and stays with you while you figure out how to achieve each of those steps to get you to your big goals.
Some people just need the right prompt, others need the right sight lines between A-Z, and some need both (that’s me). I’m telling yoy this, so that you know I know how to coach. I self coach on the days when I don’t see my coach, and my coach helps me stay the course because sometime things like starting your own business requires a lot of SMART goals to get there.
But coaching goes beyond just goal setting. We look at where you are and where you want to be from every angle to help you understanding what’s really needed to get from A to Z, or D to H. We encourage you to really look at the world around you, and see what obstacles and opportunities are out there. What tasks you have to do, if you really want to move forward and meet your future self. For me, that’s the beauty of coaching. It looks inside and outside to help you find the right path forward.
I can’t wait to meet you and the future you. So I ask you, are SMART goals enough for you, or are you ready to take the next step? If so, click here to set up your FREE 30 minute consultation.
